A very long time ago Webmaster and I formed a band… It sucked! A mere 22 years later, Webmaster reluctantly traded in his Hardchap Custom Shop Pratocaster and got himself a lovely reconditioned Commodore 64, on which he now runs the DAVE website. I’m very relieved that he did this, as his rock guitar wizardry was starting to leave permanent scorch-marks on the necks of all my guitars.

Speaking of which, my main ‘dave’ guitar is a heavily customised 1998 blue Fender Stratocaster, with loads of gadgets on it including acoustic pickups. I also use other Strats including a 1994 Claptonised ‘blackie’ and a 1987 red ‘n’ gold ‘57 re-issue. These all go through a Digitech 2120 Valve FX unit and an old Zoom 9050 into two Mesa Boogie Amplifiers running as a stereo rig. I’ve been playing guitar since I was nine.

Musical heroes: Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Vai & Satch, Eric Johnson, Joe Pass, John Sykes (Whitesnake/Thin Lizzy), Vim Fuego (Bad News). I can’t play like any of these guys, except Vim maybe…

Main influence: It’s gotta be E.C.

Favourite food: Scrambled eggs on toast and good strong coffee.

Hi I’m paul the front man of the mighty dave! I first knew I could sing at the age of 14 and formed a school band that I thought at the time was better than The Beatles! I now know, listening to early demos, it was truly rubbish! I have been in and out of bands and playing gigs for years but never played with such talent as the boys in dave! Music and singing is my world and I just love to perform.

Influences: The Beatles, Stone Roses, Shed 7, Kings of Leon, Jim Morrison

Favorite food: A good old British roast dinner.

Favourite drink: Dr Pepper.

Hello! I’m the newest member of the band and by far the most attractive and talented! I have been playing guitar for as long as I can remember and have always had a real issue with only using old gear. At present my line up consists of a 1962 Fender Stratocaster, 1976 Fender Telecaster, 1987 Marshall JMP50 head + 4x12 cab not to mention a massive pedalboard.

Musical heroes: Omar Rodriguez Lopez from The Mars Volta, Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and John Frusciante from The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Favourite food: Milkshake.

I started playing drums at the age of seven, and never got bored. I joined my first band when I was twelve, playing mainly really, REALLY bad Blur covers. My first real band was when I was fifteen. I had just done my GCSEs and decided music was what I wanted to do, so I scrapped the idea of college and decided to join a covers band. Since then I have been in numerous covers and original bands, have played with some incredible musicians – and making music remains my number one vice. I moved to Brighton last year (from my home town of Swindon) so I could be somewhere where the music scene is vibrant and lively. I have not been disappointed.

Favourite food: a good carbonara or bolognaise.

Favourite drink: JD and Coke or a can of Rio

Hi, I’m Stew the bass player. Despite what young Simon might think, I’m the pretty one in the band. I started on the piano aged seven, but then switched to guitar at twelve, and then transferred to the bass dark-side around 10 years ago. My influences include all the standards: Jaco, Pino, John Entwhistle, Chris Squire etc. but also those giving that pumping melodic rhythm such as Rob DeLeo, Norman Watt-Roy (the main man), Nick Beggs and Paul Turner. Gear-wise, I’m a bit of a MusicMan freak, but also have a Fender Jazz, all played through an Ampeg 410 rig. Being a Brighton boy, it’s on my insistence that we play ‘Gay Bar’ by Electric Six at the end of every gig :)
